DAY CAMP
Be WISE Day Camp is a math/science camp for girls entering grade 5 or 6 in the Fall of 2008. This Day Camp will be held August 11-13, 2008, at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM each day.
The camp will feature hand-on activities in Archaeology, Forensic Science, Mapping and Orienteering, Space Study and Physics. These activities are designed to develop interest in these fields and self-confidence in the students. The class sizes will be small to ensure maximum interaction.
A special thanks goes to Denison University for
the use of their classrooms and labs.
Who will direct the camp?
Experienced teachers have been selected to teach in this camp. Most have had 8-10 years experience at the Be WISE residential camp. The campers will be escorted to all classes by experienced camp counselors who are in high school or college.
Camp Fees
Camp fees are $165 which includes educational
materials and daily lunch. Transportation to and
from camp each day is NOT provided.

Payment in full is required with the camp application.
Camp maximum is 72 girls. Applications
will be accepted on a first come basis. Fees will
be returned if the camp is full. There will be no
refunds after May 1st, 2008.
Insurance
Campers are expected to provide their own
medical insurance. Denison University does
not assume direct responsibility for the health
care of those who are using the facilities of the
University for summer programs. In the event of
injury/illness, campers will be transported to either
Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, Ohio,
or Granville Medical Center in Granville, Ohio.

The Be WISE Day Camp was made possible with a grant received by The Women's Fund of Central Ohio.
Archaeology
In this session, campers will explore the different jobs an Archaeologist performs. Campers will then go to a "dig" on campus, find pieces of an artifact, learn how to clean these pieces, and then put them together to discover what they have found.
Forensic Science
A "body" is found on campus. Campers will draw the crime scene and gather clues as to what happened. Then the campers will take the evidence found into a laboratory and perform tests on it to try to solve the "crime".
Mapping and Orienteering
Students will learn how to use a compass and read various kinds of "maps". Once orienteering skills have been learned, the students will use these skills to navigate a short course on campus.
Space
In this class students will explore all things that "fly". This includes the "hows", "whys", and "whats" of flight. They will then design and construct their own flying object which they will also test.
Physics
Physics class will explore the science of light and sound. Campers will experiment with the different colors of light. They will also make musical instruments to explore sound. Finally, both of these components will be combined into a musical "light show".
